CHINESE CHECKERS

We mention and discuss Chinese checkers, although it has nothing to do with the game of Checkers as we know it. Both words of this game's name are very misleading. Chinese checkers wasn't originated in China, nor is in any way a variation of Checkers. It is also neither related to the peg game Marble Solitaire or Peg Solitaire that some people wrongly call Chinese checkers. For some reason (maybe to make it sound more exotic) it was named Chinese checkers in the United State. The game was invented and first released in Germany in 1892.  It is clearly a descendant from a similar German game by the name Halma that was first introduced in 1883. The only major difference between the two games is that Halma board is star shaped and the Chinese checkers board is laid out in a six-pointed star. The Chinese checkers game pieces are usually six sets of colored marbles, ten of each color.
Chinese Checkers Rules:
To start the game every player needs to arrange ten pegs (or marbles) as a triangle in the starting position in one of the corners of the star. The Chinese checkers game board is in the shape of a six pointed star and is playable with two to six people at the same time. Each player uses a different color set of pegs. The object of the Chinese checkers is to move all ten pegs across the board one step or jump at a time. To accomplish this object the players need to manipulate their pegs across the board to occupy the star point directly opposite. As opposed to checkers, players don't remove pegs off the board after a jump is made. All pegs stay on playing board. The player who is able to move all his pegs or marbles all the way to the other side first will be declared winner.
There are two different variations can be played on the game set - hop across or capture. Each of the games has an original and a fast-paced variant. Chinese checkers is started by any of the players making the first move and continues to the left of the first player. All players can move or jump in any direction as long they follow the lines. As in checkers, a player can move only one hole or jump only one marble at a time. As in Russian checkers, successive jumps are permissible wherever they can be made in any direction.
Chinese checkers can be played by different groups of players. Players can partner with each other. In case one partner is finished, his or her partner may help making his or her partner's moves.
